Beauty Tips | Hair Color Guide

Ladies, there is nothing more fun than changing your hair style and color! You know the feeling when you start to get bored with your look? Well, the best way to jazz it up is with a new color and cut. I myself recently opted for ash blonde low lights over a cool brown base. I loved the change. Next week, I'll be going wine red with long layers - I'll share the pictures once I'm done. Now, here are some tips when going for a new hair color:
  1. Choose the right shade for your skin tone:
    • Cool or Warm Category - If you have olive, brown or medium skin tone with darker eyes, then you should go for a Cool (ash) category and if you have fair skin with lighter features, then it's best you go for a Warm (golden) category. These categories help bring out your features and avoid letting you look washed out.
    • Color selection - Now you can choose your preferred shade whether it's blonde, red, brown, violet and the depth of the color whether it is light, medium or dark.
  2. Keep the change subtle yet obvious: What does this mean? People should be able to tell you have changed your hair color (and compliment you ofcourse) but you shouldn't go too far. Alter your hair color gradually so you are certain about the new look. The last thing you want to do is change your mind about a bleach color as there is no turning back. It often leads to hair damage which is counter-productive for a style upgrade.
  3. Low-lights could become your best friend: They add shine and dimension to your hair which looks more voluminous and often compliments the cut. Choose 2 color shades which are close such as dark ash brown and coppery tone or wine red and cherry or ruby tone.
  4. Research Research Research: If you are coloring your hair at a salon, make sure you take printed examples of what hair color and result you are looking for. If you are coloring your hair at home, check out your brand's website as most of them advice on the right shade selection through online tools which could be very helpful.
  5. Follow a good hair treatment ritual for atleast 2 weeks post your hair coloring session: This should include a good leave-in conditioner and twice weekly overnight hair oil. You can go for a natural remedy, my favorite is Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Coconut Oil (if the smell doesn’t bother you), or you can choose an over-the-counter product - my recommendation is to go for natural ingredient oils.
  6. HAVE FUN WITH IT! Flaunt it, enjoy it and wear it confidently as that's what beauty is all about.
